Seth Harwood grew up in the Boston area, graduated from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop in 2002 and currently lives in Berkeley, CA with his wife Joelle and their dog. He teaches writing and literature at the City College of San Francisco and Chabot College.

In 2005, about a month after getting married, Seth and Joelle landed in San Francisco, where he started writing Jack Wakes Up. After almost 9 months of working on the novel, he decided he'd had enough with agent dismissals and was ready to podcast it. In July 2006, the Jack Palms Crime Podcast Series was born. First came JACK WAKES UP, then the first series of stories from the collection: A LONG WAY FROM DISNEY, followed by JACK PALMS II: THIS IS LIFE.

Next, based on the success of these podcasts and a growing audience for JACK PALMS, Breakneck Books agreed to publish JACK WAKES UP in March 2008. On its first day out, Palms Sunday (3/16/08) JACK WAKES UP hit #1 in crime/mystery on Amazon.com, and #45 overall in books. From there NY agent Byrd Leavell took an immediate interest in JWU and by April it was re-sold to Three Rivers Press.

JACK WAKES UP will be re-published with a major distribution in May 2009.

Seth’s other jobs have included commodities floor trading clerk, bartender, copy-editor for Avon Products, rare book cataloguer, librarian, English teacher, and freelance journalist.

His stories have been published in Spinetingler, The Thrilling Detective Website, Post Road, Ecotone, Inkwell, Sojourn: A Journal of the Arts, and The Red Rock Review, among others, as well as in the online journals Storyglossia and zeek.net. His story “White” was nominated for a Pushcart prize.

Praise for JACK WAKES UP:

“Harwood sucker-punches crime fiction. It’s not a fair fight, he’s waiting for you to look the other way, then you get a blackjack in the back of the head. Then he kicks you in the nuts, and you actually thank him for it.”
-- Scott Sigler, bestselling author of ANCESTOR and
INFECTED

"A supercool cocktail of chicks, Czechs, cars and coke, JACK WAKES UP is an immaculately paced thrill-ride by a writer to watch."
--Allan Guthrie, author of 'Savage Night'

"With Harwood at the wheel this is a ride you won't forget. Twists and turns to rival a le mans track make this book an edge of your seat read. If this is Jack waking up I can't wait to see him after his coffee!" --Jon Jordan, Crimespree Magazine

“If Chandler had been tapped to write the first DIE HARD, and somewhere along the way Tarantino had been called in for re- writes à la TRUE ROMANCE, the result would have been a JACK PALMS tale. Hook-a-minute hardboiled dialogue and relentless action” -- Shannon Clute, Behind the Black Mask

"First he assaulted your eardrums. Now Seth Harwood's going to bash you in the eyes with the print version of his hardboied podcast hit, JACK WAKES UP. Britney and Paris are mere pikers compared to fucked-up former celebrity Jack Palms, who goes sober only to find himself neck-deep in a bigger drug mess then he ever imagined. This is an awesome debut." --Duane Swierczynski, author of SEVERANCE PACAKGE

A thrilling noir story that pulls the listener into the dark world of Jack Palms.”
-- Kevin Einarson, Spinetingler Magazine
